This past week I did a cookie theme with my preschool groups. We read about cookies, played with cookie toys and puzzles, and even decorated these real cookies. A few of my kids actually even ate the cookies - hooray! Sometimes it's hard to try something new (even when that new thing is full of sugar and quite yummy!). Many of the kids that I work with are on special diets, and I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to try a cookie if they wanted to. Hence these gluten-free and dairy-free cookies. My coworkers ate more than the kids did, so I'd call these cookies a success even for non-GF/DF eaters :)
The day that I was going to make these cookies, I was visiting with a friend and mentioned that I was going to stop by the craft store for some preschool-themed cookie cutters on my way home. She returned to her living room with a box 101 (literally) cookie cutters. Jackpot! The set by Wilton ("101 Cookie Cutters") had been a gift from years ago. I'm going to make sure to tell her about all of my reasons for stopping at the craft store before going from now on!
