These bars are so delicious that no one will ever guess just how easy they are to make. I've been making these treats for years - probably since around the time I was still using my Easy Bake oven (remember those??). My cousin made them for a holiday once and I fell in love with them. They are just layers of yummy goodness that melt together into bar form, and there is really no way to mess them up. I think the ones that I make are technically 6-layer bars. I'm assuming that each ingredient is considered a layer since mine have 6 ingredients and I skip the nuts that are in many recipes. If I'm right, then butter is considered a layer...but don't let that scare you off! You can cut the bars into as small pieces as you want. Or you can just enjoy a dessert without guilt and share the extras with friends!
I visited one of my oldest (as in long-term) friends this weekend who just had a baby. I wanted to bring her growing family some yummy treats but was on a bit of a time-crunch. I was so excited that these 7-layer bars came to mind. They were easy to throw together and in the oven while I worked on some mac and cheese (recipe here) to share with her as well. The bars were still warm when I got to her house, and they were very well received. Heather has always loved chocolate about as much as I do!
